Online Therapy in Silver Spring and Throughout Maryland & Virginia
Trauma doesn’t have to take anymore from you than it already has.
Reclaim your life.
Trauma often feels like surviving not thriving.
You're "just trying to make it through" and never quite feel like your head is above water long enough before going right back under. Past experiences hold you back and seem to always pop up despite thinking that "it's been so long" or "I thought I got past this." Trauma can make you doubt yourself, lose trust in yourself, and impact your self-esteem and self-worth.
You’re feeling on edge most of the time, like you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. Maybe you even feel numb as if you’re living on autopilot just going through the motions. There’s a desire to avoid the things that make you feel uncomfortable and these days that list seems to feel longer than it used to be. Your relationships are suffering because it’s hard to be fully present and you’re easily irritated. It’s like this type of exhaustion that you can’t shake no matter how much sleep you get…that’s if you can feel at peace enough to drift off to sleep. The nights feel long and you have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning.
It feels like there’s just no winning.
Trauma has ruled your life for too long. With therapy, you can feel like yourself; who you were truly meant to be
In our work together, you can believe in your worth and trust yourself to re-establish a connection to yourself, your body, intuition, mind, and soul. Instead of being stuck in old patterns you can’t break, you will feel more in control and grounded. When you feel triggered you won’t lose yourself. You will feel more empowered and comfortable in who you are. This will help you be more present and reconnect with loved ones.
Difficult experiences drastically change our core beliefs, or how we view the world and ourselves. This sticks with us and becomes a lens through which we view life. You will learn to remove the lens of trauma to see things from a clearer perspective. You'll explore and understand your trauma to unearth the negative beliefs it created. We'll work together to help you unlearn and challenge these negative beliefs and create healthier, more effective ways of coping. Trauma impacts all parts of your life and can often cause other issues. We’ll focus on getting to the root of it to clear through the trauma and all the difficulties it creates in its wake.

FAQs About Trauma
-

Yes, untreated/unhealed trauma can cause anxiety and even depression. When we don’t take care of ourselves, and allow issues to linger, it permeates into other areas of our lives and can cause difficulty in ways that you may not expect. It’s important to address the trauma so that it does not cause more issues later.

Yes, trauma can impact memory for some people. Our brains may block out certain memories to protect us. Also, high levels of stress can cause us to forget. If we are preoccupied with other concerns we can forget or overtime, the connections in our brain that help us process, store, and recall information can degenerate over time. It is important to address trauma as it can impact both our physical and mental health.

Studies have shown that trauma can cause a person’s amygdala, a structure in our brains that is responsible for detecting fear, is actually bigger in those who have experienced trauma or chronic stress. This means that in order to adapt to our environment and keep us safe, the structure of our brain changes to become more vigilant. When this happens, we are also at increased risk of viewing more neutral situation as a potential threat.

When trauma goes untreated, it can negatively impact our bodies. It can cause unspecified pain with no “real reason” for it. It can cause us to get sick more often or even be more susceptible to more serious illnesses such as autoimmune diseases, cancer, diabetes, and hypertension. Increased stress increases cortisol which can cause many health issues.
